While archery hunting is open throughout this period, rifle hunting specifically begins in November, making it an ideal choice for those looking to hunt during the preceding October month. For rifle hunters seeking an early-season harvest before the rut, Raven crossbows are available for use.
Our fallow deer hunting grounds encompass open alfalfa fields, narrow meadows, and strategically placed bow blinds overlooking corn feeders. Archery shots typically range around thirty yards, with most corn feeders positioned accordingly. Rifle shots are taken from distances of up to 250 yards, aligning with the common zeroing of rifles at around two hundred yards. For those seeking a challenge and the possibility of encountering elusive trophy fallow deer, the alfalfa field offers shots extending from 400 to 500 yards.
Food sources are abundant, including alfalfa fields, protein feeders, corn feeders, and cotton seeds, ensuring a consistent and diverse diet for the fallow deer population. Embark on a day of fallow deer hunting that begins with the invigorating aroma of freshly brewed coffee and the delightful taste of homemade pastries. Your schedule is in your hands as you decide when to commence your hunting, taking personal ownership of initiating your day. Our knowledgeable experts will guide you, directing you to the stand before the break of dawn, often utilizing a side by side vehicle. Once you're set, your guide will depart, allowing your immersive fallow deer hunting escapade to unfold. The fallow deer hunt usually spans until 8:30 to 9:00 AM, but you have the flexibility to extend the experience based on your preference and the prevailing weather conditions. Your hunting guide plays a pivotal role, assisting in retrieving harvested game and capturing cherished field photographs.
Upon your return to the fallow deer hunting lodge, you're greeted by a hearty homemade breakfast, featuring delectable offerings like eggs, bacon, and biscuits, compliments of Mama Dean (Holley). After a brief interlude to unwind, fallow deer hunters can opt for either a safari-style ride or the dynamic spot-and-stalk approach. If relaxation is your aim, an all-turf par three golf course awaits. The golf course offers six tee boxes and nine different hole placements and is lighted for evening golf games. We supply all balls and clubs, but feel free bring your own equipment and get some short game practice in. The ranch also supplies all tackle for fishing in our stocked bass fishing pond which has up to 9-pound bass, catfish, sunfish, and tilapia for fishing fun. Around 1:30 PM, a lighter lunch is provided. As the afternoon sun wanes, the hunt resumes, either from the well-placed stands or by employing the dynamic spot-and-stalk techniques. Your dedicated guide makes a return, assisting in retrieving downed game and preserving further field photographs, marking the conclusion of the day's fallow deer hunting adventure.
Evenings herald a gratifying dinner, moments of relaxation, and an opportunity to unwind by the inviting fire pit. For added diversions, the fallow deer hunting lodge presents the allure of night golf, alongside a well-appointed game room offering shuffleboard, pool, ping pong, card poker, and the iconic Pacman machine. Alternatively, guests can savor the soothing embrace of the hot tub, a serene way to conclude a fulfilling day of fallow deer hunting.
Fallow Deer Hunting Gear
Fallow deer hunting gear recommended for your exotic hunting experience would include comfortable camo attire, with brands like Sitka, KUIU, and Mossy Oak proving effective. Everything is bigger in Texas, and so are the extremes in weather! Please check the forecast before leaving home and come prepared for the temperatures! Early season is typically pretty warm, but when temperatures drop, you want to be prepared with layers! Due to the typically cooler weather during whitetail deer season in Texas, guides do not wear or recommend snake boots; however, a good pair of hunting boots is essential. If you are bringing your own rifle, please bring two boxes of ammo, ear protection, and a good pair of binoculars. If you would rather not bring your own rifle or do not have one, we supply gun rentals and crossbow rentals. Please specify when making your reservation if you plan to rent a gun or bow for your hunt.
Fallow Deer Hunting Lodge
Our fallow deer hunting lodge boasts 15,000 square feet for your enjoyment and relaxation and includes eight separate suites which are set up resembling a private hotel room. We have four king suites that include a desk, a king size bed, and a private bathroom with full shower as well as four double queen private suites with the same setup, two desks, and private bath. If your group has six or more fallow deer hunters, likely your group will be the only one at the fallow deer hunting lodge during your reservation. Total capacity for single hunters is twelve; however, for couples and families sharing rooms we can accommodate more. Our fallow deer hunting lodge is set up for both private family visits and accommodating to corporate outings or retreats as well. All rooms are equipped with Wi-Fi and built-in phone chargers. The fallow deer hunting lodge also has a media center with capabilities of Apple TV and Netflix, all included in the game room with surround sound speakers that have Bluetooth capabilities. Other amenities at our fallow deer hunting lodge that are included in your fallow deer hunt include a pool, hot tub, golfing, fishing, outdoor archery range with 3D targets, a full bar, beverage fridge, arcade games, ping pong table, shuffleboard, and covered patio all for your enjoyment during your stay.
